We are part of the senior end of the school. Students will move up from the primary classes or they will arrive from mainstream. The Junior Certificate level 2 learning programme is used in our class and is aimed at students between the ages 13-16 years.
The programme takes two years to complete and at the end of this time students will receive a Junior Certificate. The best thing about this programme is that there are no exams, students’ learning is assessed on a daily basis. We use a combination of assessment methods such as written, voice recorded, photo and video, teacher observation, demonstration, completed item and much more.
To achieve learning objectives and enhance a student’s experience of learning we offer a variety of subjects. Some of these include; Communications, Numeracy, Personal care, S.P.H.E, P.E. Science/geography, life skills, activities in the community, Art, Information technology, football, basketball, yoga, mindfulness.
Within the class students engage in work experience completing a number of classroom chores which are rotated each month. We also like students to complete designated tasks at home thus developing their independence and life skills.
‘4 Seasons 1 World’ is a short film produced as part of the programme Towards Inclusion Pilot Project supported by the N.C.S.E.
St Brigid’s School and All Saints’ National School came together and established a link where both schools could work together. After learning about the four seasons and the weather in each, we used contemporary dance, music, songs, poems, Làmh, subtext and some Irish language to express what we have learned.
The film shows how all students worked together, having fun and learning in an inclusive environment.
The end of the film shows the production and the parts each student played in it.
