Our Learning Goals and our path to achieving them

Secondary Purple are a class of 8 students, aged sixteen, seventeen and eighteen. We are a Leavers class in St. Brigid’s, participating in a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) Level 3 General Learning Certificate. QQI is a State agency responsible for promoting quality in Education and maintaining standards on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)

This General Learning Certificate is a two year, full time programme leading to a Major Level 3 Certificate. It enables us to acquire essential independent life skills while working at a differentiated pace, with content designed to meet our individual learning goals.

The programme includes four core Component Specifications: Mathematics, Communication, Personal and Interpersonal Skills , Breakfast Cookery, Nutrition and Healthy Options and Computer Literacy. Each one of these components focuses on real life learning and complements the JCSP and JC3 learning already completed.

The programme enables us to not only set realistic learning goals but also identifies the steps required to reach those goals. Wellbeing is at the core of this programme as its content is student driven and each learning unit is presented at a level that allows for individual learning styles.

Secondary Purple access a full curriculum and also study the Arts, SESE , P.E. ,SPHE and Wellbeing.

Secondary Purple are also participating in Gaisce -The Presidents Award this year at a Bronze Level. Gaisce is a self-directed challenge where the students will complete hours of upskilling in both a Personal and Physical skill, they will also complete an Adventure Challenge and work with a group within their Community. Upon completion of all challenge areas they will receive a medal and certificate signed by the President. This excellent addition to any CV is not only looked upon very favourably by future employers and recognised internationally but it boosts the confidence and improves the mental health of the participants through their personal achievements. Upskilling and empowering themselves while making an impact within their community.
